The Coast Guard has suspended its search for the Morro Bay man who went missing while camping in the Los Padres National Forest, near Big Sur.
Randall Young was reported missing Sunday afternoon. The Coast Guard says Young left for the Plaskett Campground last Wednesday and was due to return by noon on Sunday. When he didn't come back, a friend went to the campground but only found Young's vehicle, but none of his belongings. The Monterey County Sheriff's Department alerted the Coast Guard of the disappearance because Young had reportedly taken a kayak with him to the campground, but that kayak was never found. Search crews later found a kayak similar to Young's on a beach. The Sheriff's Department tells KSBY News the kayak that was found did not look like it had been taken out into the ocean. They say it had its oars still with it.
No signs of distress have been discovered by authorities. The Coast Guard and Sheriff's Department says it will suspend the search pending further developments in the case.
Anyone with information about Randall Young is encourages to contact the Sheriff's Department at 831-647-7702 or the Coast Guard at 510-437-3701.
