PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) - A second woman has succumbed to her injuries after a crash of a family's SUV on Highway 101 in Palo Alto Friday morning.
The California Highway Patrol says 20-year-old Sheetal Tandel died Friday night at Stanford Hospital. Her older sister, 24-year-old Nisha Tindel died at the scene of the crash.
The CHP says the two sisters were among six members of a San Bruno family in the SUV when it drifted off the freeway around 7 a.m. Friday and slammed into the back of CHP patrol car that had stopped behind a disabled pickup truck on the shoulder of the highway.
Four other members of the family were hospitalized after the crash. The father, 49-year-old Arvind Tandel, and his wife, 34-year-old Yogita Tandel, were hospitalized with what the CHP described as major injuries.
Their daughter, 22-year-old Payal Tandel, and a 12-year-old, who has not been named, suffered moderate injuries.
