Firefighters are cleaning up after a series of small fires broke out along Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County Thursday afternoon.
A spokesperson for Santa Barbara County Fire says the first fire was reported around 3:00 p.m. The fires burned a strip of vegetation between North Patterson and Fairview, as well as vegetation around a gas station in the 5600 block of Calle Real. Flames extended into the corner of the gas station building, but firefighters were able to save the structure from any major damage. The 5600 block of Calle Real was closed while crews worked to contain the incident.
The fires were contained in about ten minutes, and a fire investigator is currently on scene trying to figure out what sparked the flames. Highway 101 is open in both directions, but traffic was moving slowly as of 3:30 p.m., according to a fire department spokesperson.
