Several people arrested in botched robbery scheme

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputies arrested four people on Wednesday following a reported robbery in Los Osos.

The robbery was reported just before 3:00 pm in the 1100 block of 17th Street. Investigators say Avery Fitch, 27, of Los Osos, told deputies she was working for a Sonoma County-based mobile marijuana dispensary and that two men robbed her of money and marijuana.

A Sheriff's detective later spotted two men believed to be the robbers in a car and stopped them on State Park Road in Morro Bay.

McKinley Thomas, 19, of Los Osos, and Lane Phillips, 20, of Madera, were arrested on charges of grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.

A 15-year old girl who was also in the car was arrested and faces a charge of being an accessory after the crime.

Investigators say the robbery was staged in order to steal money and marijuana from Fitch's employer. Fitch was also arrested and charged with grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.
