A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of the Central Coast. That warning is in effect from 5:30a.m. to 7:00a.m. Wednesday. That means the doppler radar has indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing hail and destructive winds in excess of 70 miles per hour.
The following is the statement from the National Weather Service:
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OXNARD HAS ISSUED A
* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR...
WESTERN SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA...
THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF...SAN LUIS OBISPO...PASO ROBLES...
WESTERN SANTA BARBARA COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA...THIS
INCLUDES THE CITIES OF SANTA MARIA...VANDENBERG AND LOMPOC
* UNTIL 700 AM PST
* AT 532 AM PST...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING PENNY SIZE HAIL...AND DESTRUCTIVE WINDS IN EXCESS OF 70 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM NEAR CAMBRIA TO 15 MILES WEST OF POINT ARGUELLO. IT WAS MOVING EAST AT 25 MPH.
* OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO MORRO BAY...PISMO BEACH...ATASCADERO...ARROYO GRANDE AND SANTA YNEZ
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
DOPPLER RADAR HAS INDICATED SOME WEAK ROTATION WITH SOME OF THESE STORMS. WHILE NOT IMMEDIATELY LIKELY...WEAK TORNADOS MAY STILL DEVELOP. IF A TORNADO IS SPOTTED...ACT QUICKLY AND MOVE TO A PLACE OF SAFETY IN A STURDY STRUCTURE...SUCH AS A BASEMENT OR SMALL INTERIOR ROOM.
