Sex offender to be charged in Chelsea King case

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Criminal charges will be filed against the convicted sex offender suspected of murdering a 17-year-old San Diego County girl.

District attorney's spokesman Paul Levikow says charges against John Albert Gardner III will be revealed at a Tuesday afternoon arraignment.

Levikow wouldn't say what charges are being considered. However, the 30-year-old Lake Elsinore man was arrested on suspicion of rape and murder.

Chelsea King failed to return from a run at a San Diego park on Thursday and thousands of people were searching for her until finding a body Tuesday. Authorities believe the body is the girl, though the medical examiner's office has not confirmed the identity.
