A felony parolee was hospitalized after he attempted to run from a San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department deputy and was captured by the deputy's canine partner in Atascadero.
On Friday, a deputy spotted a felony parolee who had violated his parole sitting in a car in the parking lot of Motel 6 on El Camino Real around 8:30 p.m., according to a sheriff's department spokesperson. The deputy approached Wayne E. Jones, 48, and ordered him out of his car. The sheriff's department says the deputy warned Jones that a canine was in the backseat of the patrol car, and that if he ran, the canine would be released. Jones then attempted to run off.
The sheriff's department says the deputy released Jacco from the back seat of the patrol vehicle and he quickly caught up with Wayne. Wayne resisted and fought the canine and suffered puncture wounds to his right arm and back. He was hospitalized before he was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of resisting an officer, harming an officer's dog, and three felony warrants for hit and run, felony evading and driving on a suspended or revoked license. He is also charged with violating his parole.
He is being held on $110,000 bail.
Jacco suffered an abrasion to his leg. The sheriff's department says the incident was a justified use of force.
