Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies are moving forward with the creation of a separate association just for them.

They want to create the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies Association. It would not include correction's deputies or investigators from welfare and fraud.

Deputies say having their own association would make it easier to negotiate contracts with the county. They say the move will ultimately allow them to better serve the community and the sheriff's department. The group submitted paperwork to the county earlier this week and is awaiting approval.
