Sheriff's office: 14 stores sell to minors during tobacco sting

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office says more than a dozen stores were caught selling tobacco to minors.

The office conducted a sting operation in unincorporated areas of San Luis Obispo County.

The operation uses undercover and underage decoys who go into the store and ask to buy cigarettes.

Sheriff's officials say out of 54 stores visited in the sting, 14 stores sold to minors.

Officials say the illegal sales rate doubled recently from around 5 percent to 11 percent and to more than 25 percent in this latest sting.
