The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office on Thursday released some details about its security plans for the upcoming Amgen Tour of California bicycle race.
The race starts May 12th in Escondido. On May 16th, Stage 5 of the race will take cyclists through the Central Coast, starting in Santa Barbara and ending in Avila Beach.
On Wednesday, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office met with other local law enforcement agencies to develop a security plan for racers and spectators.
As part of the plan, parking restrictions will begin at 7:00 am on May 16th in areas along the race route in Arroyo Grande and Avila Beach. Any vehicles parked in those areas after 7:00 am on May 16th will be towed. Signs will be posted warning drivers of the restrictions.
The Sheriff's Office also says any bag or backpack left unattended in the race areas will be removed by law enforcement officers. Spectators are encouraged to attach a tag with contact information to their bags or backpacks and keep their belongings with them at all time.
