The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department has a new tool to fight disease.

The equipment allows users to quickly decontaminate an entire area--helping to prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses including H1N1. The sheriff's department plans to mainly use the system on patrol cars, buses, and jail cells, but it will also be available to other county agencies.

"The main thing is we want to protect the patrol officers and the employees and the side benefit is that it would also protect the inmates," said Jim Cleary with Advanced Health Technologies, who sells the product.

The mist can disinfect a patrol car in three minutes. The system was purchased with help from a $25,000 Homeland Security grant.
