Shoes collected to benefit cancer patients

In just a few days, runners will gather on the Central Coast for the San Luis Obispo Marathon, and what better place to collect old sneakers for people in need.

The Max Cure Foundation is bringing a program called Dunk Your Kicks! to the marathon.

Drop off your gently worn shoes in the designated bins, and they will be re-sold as affordable footwear in developing nations. That money helps children in the U.S. who are battling cancer.

The Five Cities Fire Authority is also collecting old shoes at its fire stations.
