Doctors at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center have performed the first surgery in San Luis Obispo County with the help of a robot.
The DaVinci Surgical System, a $2 million robotic tool, was put to work Tuesday morning to assist Dr. Elaine Yin perform an hysterectomy.
With the use of this tool, the surgery only required about a one centimeter incision.
Traditionally, it would have been 12-14 centimeters.
Smaller incisions for surgeons means faster recovery time for patients.
Wednesday night on KSBY News at 5, Carina Corral will have an interview with the first patient in the county to undergo this robotic experience.
