The Intensive Care Unit at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo is the recipient of a Beacon Award for Excellence.
The award, from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and meet AACN's standards for a healthy work environment.
The ICU at Sierra Vista has 11 patient beds. Hospital officials say a large percentage of its patients have a neurologic, neurosurgical or trauma-related diagnosis.
