Behind a dominant effort in singles, the Arroyo Grande High girls tennis team beat Orcutt Academy 13-5 on Tuesday in a non-league match between ranked teams. The Eagles, who improved to 16-1 overall after clinching their third-straight Pac 7 title, are ranked #2 in CIF's Division 3. The Spartans, who fell to 14-3 overall, are ranked #2 in Division 4.
Sophie Whittle, Lauren Hayashi and senior Alex Mero won all three of their singles sets for AG. Hayashi won all three of her sets 6-0. Whittle won 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, while Mero won 6-0, 7-5 and 6-1.
Maddie Ortiz and Maddie Seeds captured Orcutt's first point of the day with a 6-2 win in doubles action. They won two of their three sets falling only to Amber Domako and Zoe Miller 6-4. Domako was subbed out after that with a sore shoulder.
Joanne Phung and Melina Rodgers won two out of their three sets for AG in doubles 6-3, 6-2 before losing 3-6.
The Eagles will host a first round match next Wednesday in the CIF playoffs.
