Six correctional officers recovering from being attacked by inmate

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says six officers from the CA Men's Colony are recovering after being attacked by an inmate.

Officials say around 8:45 Thursday morning, inmate Christopher McCoy, 34, was found trying to harm himself inside his cell.

When staff intervened, that's when they say McCoy attacked them with a plastic cup and his fists.

All six officers were sent to the hospital for treatment. At least one has serious injuries, but none are life-threatening. The inmate is also being treated.

The case is being sent to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.

McCoy is serving a life sentence with out the possibility of parole for first-degree murder.
