The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors approved $1.1 million to the Pismo Preserve project.
Tuesday's vote was unanimous.
The Land Conservancy still has to raise nearly $12 million to buy the land.
The group wants to turn the parcel into a big public park of sorts with hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails.
