SLO County celebrates "211 Day"

The calendar says 2/11 and that has people across the country, and right here at home, celebrating "211 Day."

In San Luis Obispo County residents can dial those three digits from any phone and get instant access to a variety of area services. Operators are standing by around the clock to help people in need find food, shelter, transportation or childcare, just to name a few. The United Way of San Luis Obispo County says its call center has received more than 15,000 calls during the past two years.

"It's empowering to remember a simple phone number and begin to navigate your way to improving your life," said Rick London, CEO of United Way of SLO County.

Help is available in english and spanish. Calls are free and confidential.
