If you live in San Luis Obispo County and hear sirens sound on January 12 and 13, there will be no need to worry. The county will be conducting its quarterly "growl" tests during those two days.
The test is part of the ongoing maintenance and operations checks to make sure the Early Warning System sirens are working in the event of an emergency. During the test, the sirens will sound one at a time for up to 20 seconds until all 131 sirens have been checked. The testing will take place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
The sirens cover an area that includes Cayucos, Morro Bay, Los Osos/Baywood Park, San Luis Obispo and the Five Cities area.
