For more than 50 years, San Luis Obispo locals have been able to get their groceries from the SLO Fresh Market on Laurel Lane, but now it's closing.

The market's owner, Gwen Schmidt, says the Laurel Lane shopping center was sold. Schmidt says the owners of the center will be renting out the space to another business.

Schmidt says her rent has tripled so she's forced to move.

She tells KSBY News, "My customers are my pride and joy I always say I have the best customers in the whole world they're like family to us. I don't think anyone realizes how important this store is to the neighborhood."

The market will close in about 45 days. About 13 people will be out of a job, one of whom has been employed for 44 years.
