San Luis Obispo High student-athlete Bridget Devaney became the latest member of her family to sign a national letter of intent to become a Division I track and field athlete. Monday, Devaney signed a NLI to throw for UC Irvine.
Her older sister Vivien, who holds the program record for discus throw of 161'3", signed a national letter of intent two years ago to Notre Dame. Her mother Kathy, who's the throws coach at SLO High, ranks third in school history in the discus. "It feels really cool that I have another four years to build off of this and maybe get good enough to go on to a higher level. It's also cool because my dad went to Irvine so it's like another tradition that's being built," said Devaney.
Bridget was a three-sport star for the Tigers lettering in volleyball, soccer and track and field. With a 4.44 grade point average, she ranks 14th in her graduating class.
Her personal best throw in the discus of 131-11 ranks fourth all-time in program history. Her top mark in the discus throw is 38-1.
Devaney plans to study sports medicine or psychology at UC Irvine. She chose to become an Anteater over Notre Dame and Tulane.
