Bentley Murdock is San Luis Obispo's first social media Ambassador.
The announcement was made Thursday morning, following a six-week campaign that included an online vote and a panel interview. Forty-four local residents submitted videos for the competition. The top ten vote getters then went on to meet and interview with representatives from the community and business sectors.
Murdock has lived in San Luis Obispo for more than 18 years. He is a musician, speaker and writer, and says he has worked with local youth.
"I know that I'll be able to reach that younger demographic, to help people to reach that youthful state again to come to the happiest place in America and experience it and see why we live here, why we love it so much," Murdock said.
The SLO Ambassador contest was put on by the City of San Luis Obispo, in partnership with the City's Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID). Murdock will be an employee of Rosetta, the marketing agency contracted by the SLO TBID. He will be paid $50,000 to perform social media marketing services as the face of San Luis Obispo for one year.
