SLO native Townsend Bell to drive in Indianapolis 500

San Luis Obispo native Townsend Bell will drive in his seventh Indianapolis 500 later this month. The 97th running of the Indy 500 is on Sunday, May 26.

The 38 year old Bell will drive the number 60 Sunoco Turbo Chevrolet for Panther Racing. He will be a teammate to JR Hilderbrand.

Bell drove in eleven races between 2004-05 for Panther Racing.

The Indy 500 will be Bell's first IndyCar race since last year's Indianapolis 500, when he finished in ninth place for Schmidt Pelfrey Motorsports.

Bell has three top-10 finishes in six career starts at the Brickyard with a best of fourth place in 2009. His best start was in fourth position back in 2011.
