SLO volleyball cruises in first round of CIF, Righetti and Atascadero lose

The San Luis Obispo High girls volleyball team overcame a two-point deficit midway through the opening set and cruised to a 3-0 win over El Segundo in the first round of the CIF Division 2AA playoffs on Tuesday.

The Tigers won 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19. San Luis Obispo, which finished second in the Pac 7 League, improved to 24-5 overall, while El Segundo dropped to 11-16.

The Tigers advanced to the second round of CIF for the third-straight season. They'll face Downey on Thursday with a coin toss on Wednesday to determine the site.

Freshman Holland Boege led the Tigers with 7 kills. Erin Good led the Tigers with 13 digs, while senior star Maggie Eppright registered 22 assists.

Atascadero lost in four sets at Santiago Corona. The Greyhounds fell 13-25, 25-20, 17-25 and 16-25. Mary Kate Evans led the Greyhounds with 11 kills and 3 blocks. Sophie Guerrier added 7 kills and 3 aces. Kendall Featherstone tallied 14 digs and 4 kills, while Chandler Haskell finished with 7 kills.

The Righetti Warriors lost in 4 sets at Rancho Cucamonga. The Warriors finished the season 15-10 overall. Righetti took the opening set 25-16, before Rancho bounced back to take the next three 25-12, 25-20 and 25-16.

The Tigers and Arroyo Grande advanced to Thursday's second round. Arroyo Grande received a first round bye and hosts La Canada on Thursday. La Canada beat Paramount 25-5, 25-20 and 25-15 to set up the second round match with the Eagles.
