On Saturday, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department will conduct a prescribed burn on the Bar-M Ranch, approximately two miles south of Los Alamos.
Smoke will be visible to commuters on Highway 101 as well as in various communities in northern Santa Barbara County.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the 170 acre burn is surrounded by ranch roads and will benefit local watershed, wildlife and livestock grazing areas.
The burn also offers a training opportunity for the county's fire personnel. It's expected to start around 9:30 a.m. and last until 6 p.m..
