Lompoc native Duane Solomon won the first of three heats and had the best overall time in the semifinals of the 800 meters at the Track and Field World Championships. Solomon ran a time 1:43.87 to earn one of the eight spots in the final. The 800 meter men's final will be on Tuesday night in Moscow, Russia, which will be Tuesday morning in the United States.
Solomon has the best 800 meter time in the world this year, Solomon ran 1:43.27 to win the US Championship in June. His personal best in the event is 1:42.82 which he ran last year. The 28 year old Cabrillo High School graduate has never been in a final at the World Championships, he finished 4th at the London Olympics last year.
