A south coast businessman has tossed his name in the hat for the upcoming congressional election. Republican Tom Watson held a campaign kick-off party in Santa Barbara Thursday afternoon.

According to his website, Watson has lived in the 23rd district for some thirteen years. The district covers Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties. New to elective politics, the 49-year-old says his time in the military and private business has helped him gain extensive experience to lead the district.

Watson says his three primary issues are: reducing spending, growing the economy and jobs and national security.

The 23rd district congressional seat is currently held by Democrat Lois Capps.
