LOS ANGELES (AP) - Southern California is basking under record heat but rain could be in store later in the week.

The National Weather Service says a high of 81 in downtown Los Angeles on Monday tied a record for the date set in 1912.

Bob Hope Airport in Burbank also had an 81, breaking the record of 79 set in 1976.

Camarillo Airport's 84 topped the high of 79 set two years ago, and Vista in San Diego County had 80 degrees, well over the 77 set in 1976.

Another warm, sunny day is expected Tuesday, with LA hitting 80 and San Diego expecting 75. However, an approaching cold front will drop temperatures through Friday, bringing a chance of rain Wednesday evening and again Friday and into next week.
