John Spatafore announced on Monday that he has withdrawn his candidacy for an open seat on the San Luis Obispo City Council.
Spatafore says he decided to drop out of the race because he believed his candidacy may splinter the vote.
The City Council seat became available when Andrew Carter resigned for a position in Guadalupe.
Ballots for the special election will be mailed out to San Luis Obispo residents on May 20th. They must be received by the City Clerk's Office by 8:00 pm on June 18th.
The remaining candidates are Paul Brown, Carlyn Christianson, Donald Hedrick, and Kevin Rice.
