Spike in gun-related injuries and deaths among children

The number of children admitted to the hospital for gun-related injuries increased by 45% between 1997 and 2009.

A new study tracked gunshot violence trends.

Researchers say the death rate for kids who were injured by guns also increased by 37%.

Gun-related injuries and deaths increased the most in states that have a high percentage of household firearms.

Handguns were involved in the majority of the accidents.
