Righetti High boys water polo star Steven Tedsen continued the Warrior program tradition of sending elite athletes to UC Santa Barbara. Thursday, Tedsen signed his national letter of intent to play for the Gauchos next season.
Tedsen earned All-League and All-CIF honors his senior season. He helped lead the Warriors to their fourth-straight PAC-7 title and into the CIF semifinals.
Tedsen, who is an Eagle Scout, signed his papers to UCSB exactly two years after former Warrior Matt Johnson inked his letter of intent in the career center. Righetti graduates Noah Smith and Sam Evans also continued their playing careers at UCSB over the years.
Tedsen said the decision to become a Gaucho was an easy one. "When I was little I always wanted to go to UCSB. I went to Santa Barbara camps when I was little. I always really loved the campus. They have a great engineering program and a great water polo. It's a good place to go," said Tedsen, who plans to major in mechanical engineering.
The Gauchos finished the 2011 season with a 16-12 overall record and were ranked 7th in the nation. Arroyo Grande High graduate Jesse Gillespie will be a senior on UCSB next season.
