All eyes are on illegal immigration. The issue has taken on new significance following the passage of a new Arizona law, requiring authorities to check the immigration status of anyone they suspect to be in the country illegally.

President Barack Obama has announced he will send 1,200 National Guard troops to boost security along the U.S.-Mexico border, pre-empting Republican plans to try to force votes on such a deployment. Lawmakers and administration officials say Obama will also request $500 million for border protection and law enforcement activities.

NBC plans to focus much of its time today on the issue and will release a poll on American attitudes toward immigration.

KSBY News will have the latest on the controversy tonight at 5 and 6.

Topics: illegal immigration, pueblo, obama, debate
