Case Bruton and Keith Datu combined for 65 points as St. Joseph beat Atascadero, 85-74 in front of a sold out St. Joseph High School gym. The Knights handed the Greyhounds their first Pac-7 loss of the season behind a dominant first half. St. Joseph was ahead 42-22 at the break, Atascadero got within 13 twice in the third quarter but the Knights extended their advantage to 54-37 by the end of the third. The Greyhounds made a late run to get within 11 as the final horn sounded.
Bruton, the Knights senior guard scored 34 points. Junior center Keith Datu added 31. Junior guard Robbie Berwick led the Greyhounds with 24 points to go along with 8 assists and 7 rebounds.
St. Joseph improves to 13-4 overall, 3-1 in the Pac-7. Atascadero drops to 10-7 overall, 3-1 in the League. Both teams are looking up at Righetti, the Warriors improved to 4-0 in the Pac-7 with a 72-49 win at Pioneer Valley. Sophomore Cam Walker led Righetti with 24 points while senior Drew Johnson scored 27 for the Panthers.
Atascadero plays at Righetti on Wednesday but before that game the Warriors will play at Mission Prep on Saturday at 4:00pm. The Royals are 11-6 after beating Paso Robles on Friday. St. Joseph hosts San Luis Obispo on Wednesday. The Tigers are 1-3 in the Pac-7 after losing to Arroyo Grande on Friday.
