The California Transportation Commission has set aside $55.9 million for the second phase of the Highway 46 widening project in Whitley Gardens, east of Paso Robles.

Caltrans says the funding comes from Proposition 1B, a $20 billion transportation bond measure that was approved by voters in November 2006. Construction is already underway on the first phase of that project, between Hwy. 46 between Airport Rd. and Geneseo Rd.

The project is expected to be finished by the end of 2010.
