A local Olympian took some time out of her training schedule to teach some local students a few tricks.
Stephanie Brown Trafton is an Arroyo Grande High School grad and 2008 Gold Medalist in women's discus at the Olympic Games in Beijing. For the second year Trafton hosted the "Big Ditch Pitch Event" at her old stomping grounds for middle and high school students.
She taught participants how to throw shotput and discus, but also inspired them to dream big.
"To go to college I needed a scholarship and the best way to do that was through sports," she said. "A lot of kids are kind of in that position so for me, that kind of turned out to be, to fulfill my Olympic dream, and I'd like to bring that dream back here to the kids."
Trafton says she has her own personal dream this year, to throw the discus 225 feet. Her previous record is 217 feet and one inch.
