Three players scored in double figures to lead the Templeton High girls basketball team to an upset over Independence 56-49 to open the 37th annual Ruth Doser Tournament hosted by Atascadero High on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles improved to 2-0 after defeating the defending Doser champions, who traveled from Bakersfield. The three-day tournament opened on Thursday.
Junior Mari Stewart led the Eagles with 22 points and 16 rebounds. Megan Hattar poured in 10 points, while Paige O'Sullivan finished with 13 points. The junior made 11 of her 14 free throw shots to help seal the victory.
Templeton advanced to the winners bracket to play the Garces/Paso Robles winner on Friday at 5:45 pm.
