The Knights' reign continues in the CIF-Southern Section. The St.Joseph High girl's basketball team won its second straight section title on Saturday beating Windward 54-41 in the Walter Pyramid at Long Beach State.
The Knights led from beginning to end surging ahead early thanks to inside buckets from sophomore Aly Beebe and junior Kelsi English.
Head coach Ed Torres' Knights led 21-8 after the first quarter and 27-20 at halftime. The Knights were led by English and sophomore Heather Madrigal, who each had 12 points. Beebe added 11 points and 16 rebounds.
This was the first time since 1991 the Knights have won back-to-back CIF titles. Coincidentally, Torres was the head coach of the girl's program then. After several years as the boy's head coach, Torres captured a title in his first year back with the girl's squad.
St.Joseph advances to the Southern California Regional Tournament that begins next Tuesday. The Knights will be the home team in the first round.
