A Santa Maria bike store manager said there has been a rash of burglaries recently, and he and other owners are fed up.
On Wednesday, Tony Gamberutti the manager of Main Street Cycles said watching surveillance videos of suspects breaking in and attempting to break in, was very difficult to see.
One surveillance video shows a suspect walking around sister store, Cycle Star Cycle, analyzing bikes, and then finally riding out of the store with one.
Another video shows a suspect disguised in a white outfit, pushing bikes around, and then running off.
"Bikes are harder to track, it's not quite like a car where it's registered with a license plate. There are serial numbers, but they're very hard to track, and probably very easy to sell," said Gamberutti.
What has been stolen has cost the company thousands of dollars. Even with surveillance cameras, Gamberutti said burglary attempts happen all the time.
He said, "we've taken the precaution of adding a couple of bars to the windows and all the bikes are locked up, so if someone came in, they're not gonna get out with a bike."
Santa Maria Police said they haven't noticed a rise in commercial burglaries, but they have seen a spike in home break-ins. They said they focus their attention on that.
Gamberutti said he's thankful for the work the Santa Maria Police has put in and helping to stop criminals from stealing bikes.
"The police, they come in, they do the report, they do their job. They do what they can," said Gamberutti.
Main Street Cycles and Cycle Star Bicycles said they are offering a $500 reward to anyone who helps them find the suspects.
