Today kicks off the "Surfing for Hope" two-day event.

This evening there is a memorial paddle out at Avila beach as a special tribute to Jodi Fisher.

She's the Cayucos woman who inspired people worldwide when she passed out free ice cream on her 44th birthday as part of her fun list before she passed away.

The memorial paddle out will also serve as a tribute to all community members who have lost their battle with cancer.

"Surfing for Hope" will continue on Saturday with a longboard surf contest in Pismo Beach.
