Surfing goat and kids taken to animal shelter

The same Central Coast goats that surfed their way to fame strayed a little too far from their Pismo Beach home yesterday.

Owner Dana McGregor was visiting friends in Orcutt on Tuesday and took his four goats with him. But the goats got out.

Goatee, Pismo, Shell and Grover spent the night in a Santa Barbara County animal shelter after someone called to report the animals grazing in a lot near their home.

McGregor tried to pick up the goats from the shelter in the late afternoon but found out there's a price tag to their freedom.

"There are fees for the impoundment of any animal. Those fees are set by the Board of Supervisors and the owners of these goats need to pay those fees, which we're trying to work with them on, in order to get these guys back home"

McGregor taught his first goat Goatee to surf two years ago and has been riding the wave of publicity surrounding his goats ever since.
