Santa Maria police arrested a suspected DUI driver Wednesday following the two vehicle collision near Main and Pine Streets.
It happened around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday. Police say Carmelo Vasquez was driving east bound on Main Street in a green 1996 Honda Accord.
According to police reports, Vasquez turned north onto Pine Street right in the path of a gold 2007 Chevy pickup. The Chevy hit Carmelo's Honda.
A 22-year-old Oxnard woman, who was a passenger in the Honda, was airlifted to a nearby hospital with moderate to severe injuries. A three-month-old infant was also taken to a local hospital for evaluation and later released to Child Welfare Services. No one in the Chevy was injured.
Police say Vasquez ran a red light, causing the collision.
He was arrested, and he faces charges of felony DUI and child endangerment.
He was booked in the Santa Barbara County Jail. His bail is set at $100,000.
