Suspects believed to be involved in murdering a Santa Maria man appeared in court

The eight suspects believed to be involved in the murder of Santa Maria resident Anthony Ibarra, 28, were in court Monday for arraignment.

Ibarra's body was found in the back of a U-Haul truck in Orcutt on Tuesday, March 19. Police said Ibarra was tortured for hours before being stabbed to death on Sunday, March 17.

Six suspects, Ramon Maldonado, Reyes Gonzalez, Jr., Santos Sauceda, Anthony Solis, Robert Sosa, and David Maldonado, Jr. are all being charged with murder and are being held without bail. They also face several special allegations, including lying in wait, kidnap, torture, street terrorism, and committing a murder for criminal street gang purposes. Carmen Cardenas and Pedro Torres, Jr. are being charged as accessories. Cardenas' bail is set at $600,000 and Torres' bail is set at $630,000.

All suspects appeared in court Monday as a group, but no one entered a plea. They are expected back in court on April 10.
