Taua picks UCLA

Lompoc High School senior football player Ainuu Taua committed to continue his playing career at UCLA on Sunday. The decision came after a recruiting visit to Westwood over the weekend. The 6'0", 290 pound defensive tackle was also considering Ole Miss and Oklahoma.

Taua played tight end and defensive tackle for Lompoc, in addition to handling punting duties for the Braves. He had seven sacks each of the past three seasons.

Taua expects to play defensive tackle for UCLA, he's considered a four star (out of five) recruit by 24-7 Sports, rivals.com and ESPN. ESPN rates him as the 20th best high school player in California.

In a text message to KSBY, Taua called UCLA "a good fit for me." He wrote that the coaches were a big reason for his decision, "Mora is the real deal", referring to Bruins head coach Jim Mora who's in his second season as UCLA head coach. Mora has an 18-8 record with the Bruins including a 9-3 mark this season. He just signed a contract extension through the 2019 season.

Taua says the cherry on top with the Bruins was the jersey number he'll be allowed to wear, "they gave me the family #35."

Taua's older brothers Uso and Vai played college football. Vai was a record setting running back at the University of Nevada before playing briefly with both the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks.
