Teen arrested after high speed chase

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is investigating a high speed chase that landed a 13-year-old in Juvenile Hall.

Deputies say the chase started just after 9:45 Wednesday night in Solvang. That's when a deputy spotted a suspicious car. When that officer approached the vehicle, the driver floored it and took off headed eastbound on Highway 246 toward Highway 154.

The chase reached speeds of up to 90 mph. The car blew through a stop sign heading eastbound on Armour Ranch Road. That's when the deputies lost sight of the car.

The car was later found on a private ranch. The passenger, a 51-year-old San Luis Obispo resident, was still in the car. The 13-year-old driver fled on foot but was later caught and taken into custody.

The car had items that are believed to be stolen, along with the car that was reported stolen out of Morro Bay.

The 13-year-old driver is a reported run away from Arroyo Grande and is expected to be charged with numerous felonies.
