Teenager arrested after allegedly stealing a car

A 17 year-old Paso Robles resident was arrested after stealing a car. Paso Robles police received a call around 12:50 pm on Sunday of a report that a car had been stolen in the 700 block of Creston Road.

The driver of the car said he had left the car unlocked and running so he could run an errand.

Witnesses told police that they saw a male suspect take the car and flee the area. Officers were unable to locate the stolen vehicle until they received a call around 2:05 pm. The vehicle was then located in the 2800 block of Riverside Avenue.

An officer followed the car, while waiting for backup to arrive. That's when the suspect abandoned the vehicle in the parking lot of the Motel 6 on Black Oak Drive and fled on foot. The officer were able to chase him down, but not before the suspect was able to throw a handgun away.

The gun was later determined to be a replica firearm.

The teenager was arrested and booked into the San Luis County Juvenile Service Center. His name is not being released due to his age.
