A large study on telehealth suggests it could save lives and help keep patients out of the hospital.

An international team of researchers compared outcomes for patients involved in telehealth versus those with usual care.

Telehealth uses technology to help people with chronic conditions live more independently at home, like taking blood sugar or blood pressure measurements at home, and transmitting the results to doctors.

The study of more than 3,000 patients suggests there were significantly fewer deaths and hospitalizations with the tele-medicine group.
