The Templeton baseball won 5-2 at Santa Ynez in the final regular season game for both teams to win the Los Padres League title for a second straight year. The Eagles and Pirates entered the game in a tie for first place but Templeton freshman pitcher Mac Lardner led the Eagles to a road win in front of a big crowd in Santa Ynez.
Lardner threw a complete game five-hitter, only one of the runs he allowed was earned, his record improves to 8-1.
Taylor Tobin had a two-out RBI double to spark a four run first inning for Templeton. The Eagles scored a single run in the second inning. Michael Frigon was 3-4 to raise his batting average to .536. Spencer Walsh was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Santa Ynez scored twice in the fifth inning.
Templeton (17-4, 10-2) and Santa Ynez (17-9, 9-3) will find out pairings for the CIF-SS tournament on Monday. Cabrillo and Lompoc finished tied for third, but since Cabrillo swept the series with the Braves, the Conquistadores earn the league's #3 seed for the playoffs.Lompoc is the fourth seed. Last year Lompoc shared the Los Padres League title with Templeton.
