Just three days before the Friday night lights return to the Central Coast, the CIF-Southern Section released its preseason football poll.
For the first time in a few years, a local school is ranked number one in its division. Granted it's just a preseason poll, but Templeton is number one in the Northwest Division.
Head coach Dave Harper and the Eagles just missed the playoffs and finished 6-4 last year. They return several starters including Daulton Oropeza and superstar Tyler Gray. The runningback and linebacker is one of the biggest recruits in the state.
Templeton kicks off the season this Friday at home against Central Valley Christian.
The Eagles are one of three Los Padres League teams in the top ten in the Northwest Division. Santa Ynez is number three and Nipomo is sixth. Morro Bay, considered by many as the early favorite to win the league title, was just outside the top ten.
In the newly realigned Western Division, Arroyo Grande High was the lone Pac-7 League team in the top ten.
The Eagles were ranked #9. This is the first year the Pac-7 is in the division after switching from the Northern Division. Serra is ranked #1 in the Western Division. St.Joseph and Atascadero landed just outside of the top 10.
This Friday night will be the season premier of Friday Night Highlights. KSBY Sports will have game highlights, scores and postgame reaction starting around 11:10 pm. Our game of the week will be Righetti at Dos Pueblos High.
