Mixing alcohol with diet soft drinks may be less fattening, but it could make you more intoxicated.
A new study shows combining diet drinks with alcohol can result in a higher breath alcohol concentration because it causes the stomach to empty faster.
In fact, researchers found people who consumed diet mixers had the highest breath alcohol concentrations of all other bar patrons and their behavior was more impaired.
Experts say young women are the most likely to use artificially sweetened mixers and therefore have the greatest risk for problems linked to acute alcohol intoxication.
