The student who brought a rifle and ammunition to his dorm room has voluntarily withdrawn from the institution.
Cal Poly Police Chief George Hughes said that the University will not be pursuing charges against the ex-student, continuing, "After taking everything into account he did make a decision to bring a rifle to campus, but our investigation revealed that he was not a threat to the campus or community."
Chief Hughes said that if the student had not voluntarily withdrawn, the campus would have decided what disciplinary action they would want to take.
It is illegal for anyone to carry or have a gun or weapon on campus.
